Since it opened in December 2023, the Rozelle Interchange in Sydney’s Inner West has been constantly in the news due to asbestos being found in recreational parkland and other areas around the Interchange and the traffic chaos that followed the opening of the Interchange. Asbestos is banned in Australia.
On 7 February 2024, the NSW Greens spokesperson for Transport Cate Faehrmann successfully moved a motion to establish an Legislative Council Inquiry into the impacts of the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange.

The submission consists of two parts. `
Our submission aims to provide systemic and historical information without which the terms of reference cannot be answered.
Part one deals with questions arising out of WestConnex traffic planning, Transport for NSW’s relationship with the NSW Environmental Protection Authority and WestConnex’s problems with asbestos issues.
Part two includes our recent report on pollution at St Peters’ Interchange which was published earlier this year.
